This Memorial Day, it is important to take a moment to reflect on the true significance of this solemn day. Memorial Day is a time to honor and remember the brave men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country.
It’s not uncommon to hear people say, “Happy Memorial Day.” However, this can be quite distressing for many, especially those who have lost loved ones in the line of duty. Memorial Day is not a day for celebration in the traditional sense of the word. Instead, it is a day for remembrance and reflection on the sacrifices made by our fallen heroes and their families.
The true purpose of Memorial Day is to ensure that we never forget the lives lost and the sacrifices made. It is a day to honor their memory and express our gratitude for their service. The proper thing to say on Memorial Day is, “I wish you a meaningful Memorial Day.” Another heartfelt way to acknowledge the day is to say, “I hope you enjoy your weekend and pause to remember its purpose.”
While I never served in the military, many of my uncles and grandparents did. They taught me the value of serving our country and honoring those who served and made the ultimate sacrifice. Although my Grandpa Bewley returned home alive, he carried the invisible scars of war, suffering from PTSD long before it was widely diagnosed and understood. Their experiences have deeply impacted me, instilling a profound respect for those who serve and sacrifice for our freedom.
With this in mind, we sincerely hope you have a wonderful and meaningful weekend. Let us take the time to reflect, honor, and remember those who have given everything for our freedom.
In addition to personal reflection, we encourage you to participate in community events and ceremonies honoring our fallen heroes. Sharing stories, attending memorial services, or even spending a quiet moment of gratitude can help us all connect with the true spirit of Memorial Day.

Heavenly Father,
We come before You with heavy hearts, remembering the brave men and women who have given their lives in service to our country. We honor their courage, their dedication, and their sacrifice. They have paid the ultimate price for the freedoms we enjoy, and we are eternally grateful.
Lord, we ask that You comfort the families and loved ones of our fallen heroes. Surround them with Your peace and strength as they navigate life without their cherished ones. Let them feel the love and gratitude of a grateful nation.
We pray for the souls of those who have perished in battle. Grant them eternal rest and let perpetual light shine upon them. May their bravery and sacrifice never be forgotten, and may we strive to live in a way that honors their memory.
